Lunch open to the public reveals Agustina's private recipe
On 22 November in Porto, the Agustina Bessa-Luís Literary Circle held a lunch open to the public inspired by Agustina's novel Os Incuráveis (The Incurables), which featured a personal recipe from the writer, who was considered an excellent cook.
The meeting took place at our School of Hospitality and Tourism of Porto, and included a talk by historian Joel Cleto on the cultural heritage of some of the settings in Agustina Bessa-Luís' novels.
As part of a cycle of gastronomic events whose menus are inspired by individual texts, interviews or works by the writer - and which aims to reveal some of her lesser-known facets - the main dish at the lunch was the ‘Chicken with pepitória’ referred to in the novel Os Incuráveis.
The publisher Relógio D'Água provided diners with the writer's work that inspired the lunch menu, as well as the illustrated edition commemorating the 70th anniversary of A Sibila (with drawings by Frederico Draw) at reduced prices.
According to the president of the Agustina Bessa-Luís Literary Circle, Mónica Baldaque, the organisation of this series of lunches is intended to be ‘a pretext, among many others promoted by us, to keep Agustina's presence alive and reveal some versatile and little-known facets of her life’.
