Following the Inaugural Lecture of the Portuguese Network of Tourism Schools for the 2026/2027 academic year, the Porto School of Hospitality and Tourism (EHTP) had the opportunity to showcase some of the latest technological solutions supporting tourism education, at an event attended by Portugal’s Secretary of State for Tourism, Trade and Services, the President of Turismo de Portugal and other members of the official delegation.
Among the highlights of the visit was a demonstration of Virtual Reality (VR) tools developed and implemented as part of the European TourXperience project, an international initiative in which the EHTP participates and which aims to transform teaching and vocational training in tourism through the use of immersive technologies.
Visitors were able to experience, first-hand, different Virtual Reality-based learning environments, discovering the potential of these solutions to enrich the learning experience, bring students closer to real professional contexts and reinforce the acquisition of skills aligned with the sector’s requirements.
Inovação ao serviço da formação turística
O projeto TourXperience foi criado para modernizar a educação e formação profissional no turismo através da utilização de tecnologias de Realidade Estendida (XR), designadamente Realidade Aumentada (AR), Realidade Virtual (VR) e Realidade Mista (MR).
Estas ferramentas permitem combinar conteúdos digitais com ambientes reais ou simulados, criando experiências de aprendizagem mais imersivas, interativas e envolventes. O objetivo passa por atualizar metodologias e currículos formativos, reforçando simultaneamente as competências digitais e a preparação dos futuros profissionais para um setor em constante evolução.
Num contexto em que a transformação tecnológica e a sustentabilidade assumem uma importância crescente, o TourXperience procura também promover uma maior consciencialização ambiental e apoiar a formação de líderes capazes de contribuir para um turismo mais competitivo e sustentável.
