Douro Wine and Food Centre is a project designed to showcase Douro's gastronomic identity and provide insights for fostering a connection with tourists.
It is important to create an inventory of the local recipes, including those that are part of the collective memory but no longer practised, and those that are still in use in the community's food practices. It is important to identify which products reflect the local landscape and culture through their distinctive characteristics and to define the products in terms of their organoleptic characteristics, production methods, historical and cultural context, and availability throughout the year.
Once the gastronomic identity has been identified based on local recipes and products, training can be provided, enabling professionals to deliver excellent hospitality to tourists, and offering visitors a menu of local products and cuisine.
All this work will be kept at the Douro Enogastronomic Centre, which will serve as a communication platform between the various parties involved in the process and where the information gathered can be consulted, traditional or innovative products presented, hospitality professionals trained, local menus drawn up, paired with Douro wines, and other actions to dignify and strengthen the Douro's gastronomic identity.
